Got scammed at Nanjing so want to warn bros here, as it probably applies to any city. TLDR - got brought into a black shop by Taxi tout

Took a DiDi alone down to 1912 bar street and then this taxi driver approached and asked what I was looking for. Always skeptical about touts being scammer so just kept walking away and he followed to tell about the area which had many bars/club closed or convert to hotel. So he accompanied through the short bar street which was indeed quiet on a weekday night and the popular club even hoarded/closed.

Towards the end he said he can bring me to a student KTV nearby. Asked a lot of questions, including price which seems reasonable and also if I can reject and leave if I don't like. He said just have to pay his taxi fare of 10rmb. He also recommend to choose beer as the hard liquor are watered down which I felt honest at that time as it's quite common in other countries.

Entered the KTV on 3rd floor, mamasan came in, prices matched what he said but only came 2 ladies to pick. Since I already came, I just took one.

Prices in RMB disclosed up front which is the usual
Girl 600-800 until close
Room price 100
Fruit platter
Beer 50-70 / small bottle

Asked the driver mamasan/waiter tip and was told 100 for mamasan

All was good until 30 minutes later when another girl they call 公主/princess came in and I knew something was up. I kept rejecting and asking her to leave but she wouldn't and they said she isn't paid. They said her job is also to clean the room later and will have to stand outside if not allowed inside. So she stayed and kept company/drinking. Think her main job is to drain the beer.

After awhile, the mamasan also came back to ask for tip payments for the 3 of them and that's where the dispute began. Asked for the amount for her and princess and she didn't want to say. Told her the driver only said 100 and she denied and asked me to call him up. Eventually after much arguing, she said to be 400 each, totaling 1.6k for the 3 and she left.

Then the girl said she was hungry and want to order snack, they pulled in a trolley and I agreed to 1 but she took 3.

Backtrack to the beer issue, I ordered a cheaper one as I was looking for a light beer and they said they don't have and would charge me same. Then came 12 bottles of the expensive one at room temperature. I preferred cold so then they delivered another 12 bottles of cold one and this time they got the brand I wanted?! They said don't have to pay what isn't opened.

After less than 2 hours, they chugged through 12 bottles of their beer and I wanted to leave, cause it was so expensive and not much fun. I only drank around 3 and so there were 9 bottles left and she quickly went to open them even when I strongly said No.

That was my last straw, I asked for bill and wanted to get out. Kept complaining but they wouldn't budge, charged for all 24 beers, with 12 at the more expensive price. They also added a dance fee 168 or something times 3 and the bill added up to 4k. The "dance" was just the 1 girl sitting on you.

Total damage 1k+ SGD for around 2 hours.

Really regret it and its my first KTV experience in China and I kept thinking about this scenario so hopefully penning it down helps with forgetting. Always think I should have call the cops or run away. I have experience in so many countries but this is so far my worst experience.

Unfortunately history keeps repeating itself.
Nanjing "massacre".
No pun intended.

Shanghai also have many such black shops.
In China never follow any touts to go to any nightlife establishments.

Can consider using the services of the sponsored agent(s) on SBF for a peace of mind.

Brother, when I finished reading your KTV field report, I was shocked. Being tricked by taxi drivers into going to KTVs was a common occurrence 20 years ago. I remember that I went to Hangzhou for a trip in 1998 and got on a taxi at night. The driver told me the same thing. There was a place with many SYTs and college students. The sitting fee was only 100 RMB. I thought it was a good deal, so I went with him. Needless to say, you know what happened next? I was alone and called 3 girls. What followed was far from the deal I was promised: a bill that ballooned out of control, pressure from bouncers, and even having beer poured out before I had a chance to finish it—all tactics to push guests to spend more.

I can't believe that after 20 years, there are still people who are deceived. I believe there should be many people who have also been deceived, but they just didn't share it on the forum. In addition to these tricks to trick you into spending money at KTV, Pandaland also has many cheats like food and wine (beautiful women pretend to ask you questions on the road, and then take you to restaurants or bar/clubs for consumption). You think they are kind and enthusiastic, but in fact, when you pay the bill, they ask you whether you would pay or not. Then there are the small cards distributed on the road or you use WeChat surrounding to find fun with WeChat function. I can tell you very clearly that there is no free lunch in the world, or pie in the sky, and it is very likely that you will be "honey trap" and blackmailed for a huge sum of money.
