The premonition

Sara: why do you want to tag along?
Me: I just want to be there supporting you.
Sara: sam..... if I need to sleep with them, I would. Just so that this nightmare will pass soon.
Me: I know.
Sara: I dont want you to see.
Me: Baby.... if I am not around, I would start to imagine stuffs and that would not be good for us.
Sara: but if you did, can you take it?

I had already contemplated this when I requested to be present. I replied without hesitation.

Me: Yes. No matter what happen.

Just then, the door bell rang and Di returned in about 15mins with some bags. She passed separate bags to Sara and myself.

We looked into our bags and it contained only swim wear.

Mine was a pair of beach shorts.

Sara's was a sky blue bikini. However, there was no padding on the item.

Di: You will stay here tonight. Hadi and myself will be here to accompany you because we will leave at 4am later to beat the traffic.
Me: where are we going?
Di: You'll know tomorrow morning.

She looked at Sara.

Di: Someone will help you to apply leave for the whole week.

Sara did not speak and just nodded.

Then she look at me.

Di: Likewise for you.

As we were as good as prisoners, dinner was room service.

We retired to the bedroom early so that we could spend some time together. We were not in the mood to make love and only held each other hand quietly. We knew that after tomorrow, everything would change for the both of us.

Monday

We were awaken by Di at 330am and we took our turns to get ready.

Sara wore her blue bikini underneath her singlet and shorts and after a breakfast via quick room service again, we left the hotel.

The drive was quick as the traffic was sparse during this hour. There was only silence in the car as Sara was tired and she took a nap on my shoulders.

Soon we arrived at Marina Pantai Mutiara.

Hadi and Di led us along the gangplank and stopped in front of a speedboat.

Di: We are waiting for someone.

She looked at her watch and then out into the distance.

Di: oh... there they are....

Sara and myself turned to look.

We thought that we were waiting for the Japanese clients. But we saw Helen with another familiar face. Vivian. They were both dressed similar to Sara.

Vivian: Hi babe.... it's been some time since I last saw you... you look.... different....
Sara: why are you here?
Vivian: I guessed they have already told you.... I work for Ms Lucy....
Sara: why?

Before she could reply, Helen cut her short.

Helen: Ok.... enough.... Time to board.

And so, Helen, Hadi, Vivian, Sara and myself board the boat. Di remained on shore.

As the boat move off, I turned back and took a glance at Di. She did not even look at us as she walked back the way we came.

Hadi was driving the boat fast as the water was not choppy today.

The wind blew against our face and the sun was only rising in the horizon.

If the weight of the situation did not hang around us, I would say that it was a beautiful day.

The atmosphere was tensed and a storm was brewing in the boat.

Sara: So tell me why are you working for Lucy?
Vivian: sorry.... my mum was ill when I entered the University. Lucy hired me then as I was in need of money.
Sara: I trusted you so much.
Vivian: sorry....

Sara turned away from Vivian and I looked at Sara. She had changed drastically over the past few weeks.

Initially, when I met her immediately after the dream, she was a laid back person. Working as a receptionist rather than getting into a rat race.

Although I could tell that she had inner strength from growing up with a nanny, she did not always show it.

She was more happy go lucky then.

She was still the attractive girl that I first laid my eyes on.

However, after the incident with the worker in her office, the meeting with Lucy, she had toughened up.

Her determination had grown and her mental astuteness which was previously dormant, had risen to the surface. Her innocence long evaporated.

I put my hand on her shoulder and she just touched my hand without turning back to look at me.

The boat ride was about an hour and by the time we slowed, the sun was already starting to crawl up the sky. There were almost no clouds in the sky.

We docked at the small jetty and Hadi tied the boat to it as we disembarked.

I looked at the island. It did not look like those commercial resort kind.

More likely a private island and it was small. No larger than our own Kusu Island.

There was a pave way from the Jetty to the Eastern end of the island, where some small huts sat and 2 of them had their balcony extending over the sea.

I could see the Western end of the island with a beautiful beach stretching along the remaining of the shoreline.

As I continued my survey, a guy dressed in a cook uniform came towards us.

Helen spoke to him in Bahasa and he nodded. Hadi went off with him as their conversation ended.

Sara held my hand tightly as Helen turn to speak to us.

Helen: the guests are not here yet. That guy is the cook. He will stay here with us. Follow me.

She brought us to the compound.

There was a clearing behind the 2 huts that were by the sea.

3 huts sits in the middle of the clearing. A big open one without walls, which look like our very own training shed, had some mats lined on the floor. A medium one that had walls and only an entrance and came with a chimney, apparently was the kitchen and another small one which was the toilet.

I looked at the 2 huts by the sea. Although there were walls, but the walls were covering less than half the structure.

There were 2 kingsize beds in each of them. 2 deck chairs were on the balcony. There were nothing else.

Helen: we can take this hut.

She pointed to the hut on the left.

Helen: make yourself at home. The clients should be arriving around lunch time.

With that, she walked off to look for Hadi and the cook.

The three of us were alone for the first time.

Vivian: ok.... I am going for a tan....
Me: wait...
Vivian: what?

I was not planning to ask her about Don.

Me: what do you know about the clients?
Vivian: I dont know anything about them.
Me: I'm sure you do.
Vivian: I really dont know anything about them.
Me: I mean, Sara had been nice to you all these while. So perhaps you should tell us something.

She turned and face me directly and spoke in a stern tone.

Vivian: Sam. I seriously do not know. But I know that sex is expected. That is why Lucy asked me to be here. So....

She looked at Sara.

Vivian: I am sure you know that too.
Me: then why are you accepting?
Vivian: This is my last job.....

With that, she turned around and walked into the hut leaving Sara and me standing there alone.

Me: now what?
Sara: baby.....

I turned and saw her staring sadly into my eyes.

Sara: I told you about this trip and what it is about. For both Vivian and myself, this will be our get free card. That is why you have no reason to be here. You should not be here.

I wanted to speak but she continued.

Sara: you'll be hurt...... I will do anything for my get free card. Anything..... I do not want to live like a prisoner all my life....
Me: I know.... I understand....
Sara: but with you being here, I will have my reservations. because...... I care about you..... and I love you....
Me: sorry baby....I love you too.....
Sara: any way, let's not worry too much.... it's bad for health.... I'll just play by the wind.... ok?

I did not know what to say as she kissed me on my cheeks and followed Vivian into the hut.
