Really surprised that this has escaped the scrutiny of so many thai laojiaos here....

Ruk tae doo lae mai dai, the anthemic love song from Potato, the " tae " means " Real, genuine" and not what you guys think as " dtae " which means " but, however "...

Maybe it could be your assumption that ppl here thought the "tae" is "but, however"

But if as said by you
Ruk Tae = Love Real.
Doo Lae = Take Care
Mai Dai = Cannot

Are we supposed to say that Ruk Tae Doo Lae Mai Dai means Love Real Take Care Cannot?

What kind of English translation is this?

So, the rephrasing was done in this way as said Love But cannot take care of you. Even in the song title also never mention the word "you". However it would sound really weird to say Love but cannot take care. Because take care what???

In this song, the chorus is Ruk Tae Yoo Doo Lae Mai Dai, while the song title left out the Yoo.

****However, maybe why not you correct us in another form as to how the whole song title Ruk Tae Doo Lae Mai Dai should be phrased without putting the word "but, however" in it, so that we can all learn too.

nicely pointed out รักแท้ ดูแลไม่ได้ "ruk tae doo lae mai dai" (there's a space between tae & doo)

i guess there's no perfect translation without making sense in the translated language grammar. just for discussion's sake... maybe another way of phrasing could be; "true love, unable to take care of" - since thai phrases seldom, if not, never had punctuations (punctuation adopted in recent years; influenced by foreign language), but still widely uses paragraphs & spaces instead.

IMHO in the song chorus, mee rak tae yoo doolae mai dai...

so means have real love but unable to take care of it ( the love )..

looking at the lyrics of the song, we get a clearer picture..hehe

bro i think it should've been "rak mai yom bplien blaeng" - which literally translates as "love will never yield to change"... can also be interpreted as "love will never change"

yom = accept/ acknowledge/ yield/ admit to (subject to varied applications)
