Search is now a lot faster and consumes less resources. However, indexing now runs every 5 minutes so a post has to be at least 300 seconds old before it shows up in the search results.

Hmm... searching for Purex on other planets whilst indexing is done on mother earth. How to get good search performance, as light can only travel 186000 miles/sec... just kidding...

Do notice that search is faster, but if for some reason, the search did not return a valid result (eg mis-spelled username), the search option settings that one had set in "Advanced search" are not preserved for the next search. Don't know whether this symptom exist before search was upgraded. It will be good if the settings are preserved.
eg is "Sort result by" becomes "Relevancy" instead of a previously chosen "Last Posting Date"

Sphinx for vbulletin3 is not perfect. There are various limitations. However, I figured the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. Sphinx uses far less resources than the vbulletin search function and the database was suffering intermittent crashes when multiple search queries were running at the same time during peak hours.
