Actually from our dressing most Thais will know whether you're Thai or foreigner.
What you say is very correct.
Most importantly everybody cannot lose face.
If just very small matters just apologise and walk away.
Most guys who come to Thailand is for vacation.
Why bother with confrontations?
Big no no in Thai culture.
Leave whatever culture behind from where you come from and blend in.
As the saying goes, "When in Rome. Do what the Romans do."
