I noticed the (y) looks long time ago. Actually was not aware at 1st, but was told by a BG. She was sending me SMS from her primitive mobile phone (those without emoticon). She one of those farm fresh BG who couldn't afford expensive phone at that time.
I asked her what does (y) means in her SMS, then she told me abut it.
