Funny mistakes while learning Thai.
3. A more challenging part of Thai is getting the tones right. Wrong tones can mean the world of difference between comprehension and downright befuddlement.
For example, the word for SNOW is Hi-Ma หิมะ If you don't know the right tones, you may end up saying หีหมา Chee-Bye of Dog. And worse, if you ever heard something like this...
Nong: Where do you come from? Is it cold? คุณมาจากประเทศที่ไหน โน่นหนาวไหม
AM: From Canada. When it's cold, we have "dog CBs" falling all the time. จากแคนาดา เมื่อหนาวมากหีหมาก็ตกตลอดเวลาเลย
Nong: (blushing) I see... ต่ะ
