Starting next year (2012), Thai Banks will only insure up to 1,000,000B! So, to all the wealthy Chinese be very careful where you keep your money next year!

I'm wondering, If I can open a savings account in Singapore Bank? Also, to all American expats living in foreign countries, beware of new law, US HIRE Act that goes into effect 2013!

I opened a savings account. If you don't have a work permit, you need to bring a passport, current driver license and lease agreement of your apartment or condo. I have savings account in Bangkok Bank and Siam Commercial Bank and in the long run Bangkok Bank has more benefits and higher interest rates. Also, Bangkok Bank will deposit international personal check so you don't have to wire money from your foreign bank!
