Chapter 51 – “Another one bites the dust…..”

It’s the weekend again. I spotted the two sisters and Sarah up ahead strolling, on their way to the market. Walking briskly and silently, I moved up close behind and startled them all with a hearty “GOOD MORNING!!” “Ahh!!.....” Alice yelled in shock as she instinctively turned around and shielded her face with her hands while Amy immediately cowered on the ground. Sarah too jumped in fright and let go of the trolley. I couldn’t help but laugh uncontrollably at the comical scene that was playing right in front of me.

“What the f…” Alice shouted as Amy quickly stood up, face flushed with embarrassment. Sarah, smiling sheepishly as usual, quietly picked up the trolley. Alice began hitting my arms continuously with her hands, berating me loudly for startling them as I tried to ward off her blows. “Very funny is it? Hah? Very funny is it?” she repeatedly shouted as a couple of passers-by and a cyclist stopped and looked at us. “Aiya, sorry lah! SORRY LAH OK!! I only joking with you…..” I muttered feebly. “Huh? Like that also good to joke one meh?” Alice continued, “You know we nearly kena heart attack?” “Aiya, ok lah…..” Amy then said, trying to calm her sister down. Turning to me, she glared with daggers in her eyes and warned “Next time don’t scare us like that one ok? We all not young anymore and what happen if one of us kena heart attack? Then how?” I looked at the ground and nodded, apologising again for my foolish prank. The two sisters then walked ahead leaving me with Sarah tagging along behind. Glancing back quickly to see if there’s anyone behind, I reached out and grabbing Sarah’s bum, squeezed them hard, causing her to shriek and jump in shock, dropping the trolley once again. It was a good thing the sisters’ didn’t notice and Sarah didn’t seem to mind that. She just smiled at me, sheepishly…..

“Come, I blanja you all breakfast, ok?” I offered as we reached the hawker’s centre. Alice, not over the shock yet and still seething with anger just grunted and kept quiet while Amy declined, saying that she’ll go with Sarah to the market. “Wait for me…..” Alice called out to her sister, “I go with you. Don’t know what this siao lang will do again wait…..” as she strutted to join Amy and Sarah, leaving me standing alone by the curb side. I watched them as they disappeared into the market and then went alone to queue for yu tiao…..

That Sunday started out badly for me from that incident. I don’t know if it was a precursor of negative things to come but it seemed that nothing turned out right for me then. For starters while reading the papers during breakfast, I accidentally spilled my kopi over it and it soiled the papers right through. The blinking yu tiao also tasted funny, like it was fried in stale oil. My bathroom light blacked out as I was sitting on my throne. Good thing that it was still morning as light filtering in through the window made the toilet bright enough for me to wipe my ass clean with the toilet tissue. And that was only the icing on the cake. On my way to buy lunch, the strap of my sandals broke and I had to literally drag my foot all the way home…..

That evening, my wife felt like having dinner at the basement foodcourt in HDB hub. A surprise was laying in store for me there. Whilst looking for a seat, I happened to see Devi with another Chinese man. She co-incidentally looked up as I walked past her table and our eyes met for a split second. A look of surprise and shock shown on her face. Keeping her cool, she quickly focussed her attention to the guy seated next to her and pretended not to notice me. We’ve not met since the day I passed her the cash and I was pretty sure she was avoiding me then…..

“Devi!” I greeted her. Feigning surprise, she looked up, smiled and greeted me in return. “Chan!” she exclaimed. “How are you?” I asked her. “Ok lah. What about you? What you doing here?” she muttered, somewhat nervously, at a loss for words and clearly feeling uncomfortable meeting me. “Well, what can I do in a foodcourt?” I replied in jest. “Meet my friend, Jason…..” as she introduced me to him. Extending my hand, I introduced myself, “Chan. Nice to meet you!” as Jason returned the gesture by shaking mine. “So, how’s life?” I turned to ask Devi. She fidgeted in her seat and replied, “Ok lah, still surviving…..” without looking at me.

Her body language showed that she was subsconsciously getting defensive as she sat back and folded her arms, smiling wryly and not wanting to look at me directly. “Ok, I better don’t disturb you two.....” I said to them, “Enjoy your dinner!” I said to Devi in a rather sarcastic tone, smiling as I turned to walk away. “Who’s that?” my wife asked as she managed to get a table within sight of where Devi’s seating. “Huh? Oh, she came for an interview sometime back and we rejected her…..” I mumbled. “Rejected also can remember her one meh?” she asked, with suspicion in her voice. I didn’t bother to answer her as she got up to buy her dinner.

I observed Devi and Jason and was wondering if she’s trying to pull the same trick on him as she did with me. If so, then he sure must have had experienced and tasted her masala pussy already. “Boy, it’s sure going to be a real expensive pussy for him,” I mused. I was really tempted to go up to him and ask but my inner voice whispered for me to let it go. “Another one bites the dust…..” I hummed the song mentally to myself, feeling sorry for him and pity for her.
