The AFA test will not take down any of your personal particulars, you'll just be issued a number for a pin-prick blood test. But DSC test is not anonymous.

Hi, I'm a little confused with your last statement above. Is AFA the same as DSC? One is the name of an org and the other is a location name? (Sounds like there's another place to test, other than DSC?) Also, I tot DSC test (HIV) can be anonymous?

Action for AIDS conducts anonymous HIV test at 31 Kelantan Lane, DSC Clinic on Tues/Weds 6.30-8.00PM and Sat 1.30-3.30PM. On Saturdays, you can also get a syphillis test at the same time. Cost is $20, $30 with syphillis. It's safe in the sense that your particulars will not be recorded even if you test positive. You'll get your results in 20 minutes.

If you want to test for other STDs, you can go to DSC. It is not anonymous, but your medical information is kept confidential.

I'm curious to know what's the rational behind NOT having anonymous test for "other STDs" too; since to the individual it's as taboo a subject and having anonymous test for the others will encourage more people to come forward isn't it? Also, STDs are usually a prelude to HIV/AIDS or at least make the person more prone to getting AIDS, so getting more ppl to test for "other" STDs anonymously will help to battle AIDS right?

Btw, I dunno hear from where that once a person is found +ve for full-blown AIDS, he/she will not be allowed to travel out of the country? Can you share more on this (which sounds reasonable, every country will want to protect themselves from AIDS carriers coming into their country; just like preventing SARS carriers from coming in). If it's true, what level of confidentiality are we talking about (e.g. national interest will override individual's right?). More importantly how much choice does that individual have for NOT having it in medical record if found +ve?

The other hear-say I got is that since treatment for full-blown AIDS require special medications, such can only be made available to the person IF it's in medical records - so if really kenna, die-die also must report & register the case, else no medication to take lor. Izit?

Bro... AFA is not DSC. AFA simply have the place from DSC on certain days to do annoynomous test to help people. It's at same place but different days and timing with different people doing abit different thing. DSC does all kinds of STD test while AFA only does 2. HIV and Syphilis.

DSC is pretty much just like any other regular clinic, they have their standard protocol of registering the particulars of its patients for its records. As jackylee said, AFA simply borrows the venue for the HIV and Syphilis testing.
AFA is a non-governmental organization; we have a different way of operating.

These are good questions to think about, but I am unable to give you an answer because some info is sensitive. However, you can be assured that AFA does its best to provide HIV+ people with the necessary and relevant information so they know how best to manage daily living and etc.
