Fat Hope LOL!!

I hope Nugent is in Fat Sam's plans...but think he going Toffee...

Toffee is in the way up while Newcastle is trending downwards....No points for guessing which proposition is more attractive...;)

Seriously, excluding the top4 teams in EPL....Everton, Tottenham n Newcastle (under Sam A.) will be leading the rest of the pack for the remaining Uefa places again....

Coming back on Everton, the team really needs strengthening on all fronts, including the goalkeeping area!! (Just look at the mess Iain Turner made at Goodison Park against Man Utd... ) Nugent will be a nice addition but his arrival will also spell the end for Beattie.....But it is also high time that Moyes reduce the striking burden on AJ...A proven continental goal-scorer will be ideal but money is scarce in Goodison Park nowadays so perhaps Nugent will be a cheaper alternative.....Not forgetting that Everton still need to strengthen their defence badly, there is really not much cover for their 2 central defenders (Yobo n Stubbs), also keeping in mind that Stubbs is almost 35yrs old....Will be looking forward to Everton's forays into the transfer mkt to anticipate whats in store for Toffeemen in the next season!

MAGILTON ON WRIGHT MOVE

Ipswich Town boss Jim Magilton insists a return to Portman Road for Richard Wright is far from a foregone conclusion.

Ipswich chairman David Sheepshanks revealed earlier this month that the Championship outfit were interested in taking Wright back to the club where he began his playing career.

Wright has been told by manager David Moyes he is free to find another club and that his Goodison contract is unlikely to be renewed this summer.

However, Magilton has revealed he has yet to sit down with Wright to discuss the terms of a possible return.

He said: "I have not sat down with Richard or his agent to discuss terms. Richard has expressed a desire to return to Ipswich, but nothing concrete has been decided."

NO BIDS FOR SIMEK

Sheffield Wednesday have quashed rumours linking Frankie Simek with a move to Everton.

Reports in the morning papers claimed the American international could make a £3m move to the Toffees.

But Wednesday chief Brian Laws was unimpressed with the claims, insisting he has not been contacted by any club about the 22-year-old defender.

"I've heard nothing, as far as I'm concerned it's a load of bull," said Laws.

"I have had no contact from Everton or any other such club regarding Frankie Simek and in the end Frankie Simek is not for sale.

"He is a key payer and has had a great season and I believe there is no truth in the matter whatsoever. As far as we are concerned it is just speculation.

"There is nothing more we can say on the matter because no football club has made contact with us at all."

Simek began his career in England at Arsenal and has also been at Bournemouth and QPR on loan.

He made 44 appearances for Wednesday last term, largely in the right-back position.

I'll NEVER forget that...Chelsea was leading at Bolton and Everton were 2-0 at Goodison...then it went wrong wrong wrong...:( But it is also high time that Moyes reduce the striking burden on AJ...A proven continental goal-scorer will be ideal but money is scarce in Goodison Park nowadays Hey...how about Heskey...or Sheringham at Goodison? :D

but this one cannot blame everton for it. graveson was attracted to being called a "gelek"-"teeko" mah!!! if they didnt sell him, he would have been out of contract at the end of that season. then everton wont get a single cent, rather than the 2mil pounds they received.:p

where is he now, by the way???

Actually Howard was supposed to be on loan from Man Utd for the entirety of last season n under the loan contract Howard was not to be fielded against Man Utd....Fyi, despite the big brouhaha over Howard's absence in the match against Man Utd at Goodison Park, let's not forget that his absence against Man Utd at Old Trafford earlier in the season practically went unnoticed....Think the close run-in for the title generate a lot of unnecessary conspiracy theories....

go for nugent... suits everton style of play. but then again, everton seems to have quite a few young ones who r doing exceptionally well, especially that vaughan kid!!! damn, he has the potential to be the jonah lomu of english football. fast, strong and packs a strong shot

Let's not V. Archie too! These 2 young lads pack a mean punch n r definitely poised to achieve greater heights in the coming season....That's why I feel Everton need an experienced striker to backup AJ n with the 2 young strikers providing the cover, Everton's strike force is well stocked....

i would expect u to offer lampard for loan now, since cahill has some very interested parties coming in for him....

Can you tell the interested party to shoo off LOL....:p

Cahill n M. Areta r integral to Everton's midfield n not likely to b sold this close season....Problem is Everton currently lack cover for these 2 creative architects, closest being M. Fernandez n he is still finding his feet at G. Park...Everton has been linked recently to J.Barton (Man City) n Phil Jag (Sheff U) but they r more holding midfielders than creators...Guess Moyes is trying to build a solid midfield instead...

graveson is the biggest loss, in my humble opinion.

Agreed. Dacourt n Matarazzi r great players but they didn't play with their hearts on their sleeves unlike Gravesen...Rooney was a great distraction to the team because of his superstar status....Everton went on to perform so much better after he was sold....Guess that's the reason why Moyes is not going for household names in to fill the ranks at Goodison Park....

hahaha... gravesen is last seen playing for the celticos and his temper there has become legendary becos strachan can never seem to let him finish his 90mins just like in madrid...

Like manager like player LOL....Anyway, Gravesen is rumoured to be eyeing a move back to EPL but personally I think this is more trash talk by his agents egging for a move....

he never seemed to have that temper problem when he was playing for everton. and he definitely got much more respect from the fans and fellow players. at least, at everton, he didnt fight with his teammates.

Actually Howard was supposed to be on loan from Man Utd for the entirety of last season n under the loan contract Howard was not to be fielded against Man Utd....Fyi, despite the big brouhaha over Howard's absence in the match against Man Utd at Goodison Park, let's not forget that his absence against Man Utd at Old Trafford earlier in the season practically went unnoticed....Think the close run-in for the title generate a lot of unnecessary conspiracy theories...

saw that game lah. this kind of sudden collapse for no apparent reason, i havent seen it for a long time liao!!! the last time i saw it, it was in our neighbours' kelong cup, last game of the season kl vs selangor, i think. 2-0 down at half time, think selangor (or was it kl???) came back and won 4-2, thus depriving sg of the title.

Let's not V. Archie too! These 2 young lads pack a mean punch n r definitely poised to achieve greater heights in the coming season....That's why I feel Everton need an experienced striker to backup AJ n with the 2 young strikers providing the cover, Everton's strike force is well stocked....

need more experience lah... everton wasnt as dangerous whenever aj wasnt playing.

Can you tell the interested party to shoo off LOL....

as if i could... this happens every season what... cahill always attract interest. arteta too... he was indicating last season that he would love to link up with his fellow spaniard, alonso... wah, he really wished hor??? no need to relocate, just get on with life. change jersey colour only...:D

joey barton is good. but his temperament is too questionable!!! not his first time and i can bet my last dollar that it wont be his last time. TGIF!!!

Darren Bent is definitely up for grabs but Everton seems more interested in Nugent n there is only budget for one striker so think Bent is a no-go at the moment....Phil Jag was a Everton schoolboy n supported Liverpool.....Fowler n Macca n Owen r all Liverpool schoolboys n supported Everton...Go figure too!!

yeah lazio was a pile of poo when they played in europe those days, homeground can also lose to leeds that time. they started breaking apart when they signed mendieta from valencia for millions. the great mendieta was like a lost boy away from spain, the worst came when lazio had to ship fiore to valencia to wipe off the earlier debts. sad... :(

aye, those were the days... the great southall in goal, radcliffe marshalling the defence with gary stevens, reid controlling midfield, sheedy running riot, graeme sharp supporting lineker.

i m a pool fan, and the merseyside derbies were the biggest games of the season, period. i wished that pool could somehow get their hands on sheedy then cos he posed so many problems for pool!!! but the jinx man was pat nevin!!! he practically specialised in scoring against pool!!!:D

Another new young striking prospect

Lukas Jutkiewicz

Lukas Jutkiewicz arrived at Everton in the summer of 2007.

He agreed a deal in March of that year after emerging as one of the hottest young prospects in the lower divisions whilst at Swindon Town.

He helped the Robins to promotion back to League One at the end of the 2006/7 campaign before heading for the Premiership.

Jutkiewicz made his senior bow for Swindon in April 2006 when he was just 17.

He came on as a substitute against Swansea when Swindon were in League One and within minutes had produced a headed goal-line clearance.

He went on to make four more appearances in the 2005/6 season.

Jutkiewicz was a regular substitute at the start of the 2006/7 season before making his first start of the campaign in the 1-0 defeat to Wycombe in October.

He scored his first ever senior goal at Walsall's Bescott Stadium in December.

He would total 13 starts, 20 substitute appearances and 5 goals throughout the campaign.

Jutkiewicz then switched to Everton in the close season.

Koumas signals interest in move to Everton

Jason Koumas refused to rule out a move to Everton today as he made it clear he wants to be playing in the Premiership next season.

The talented Wales midfielder has been strongly linked with a £4million move to Goodison Park following West Brom's failure to win the Championship play-off final against Derby on Monday.

Koumas, who has been a long-term target for Everton boss David Moyes, accepts now that his future may lie away from the Hawthorns.

And as he prepared for Wales' Euro 2008 qualifier with the Czech Republic in Cardiff tomorrow, he said: 'Any player will say they should be in the Premiership, and I am no different. I feel I can play in the Premier League, no problem.

'I'm a local lad from Liverpool, I suppose a move back to the city would be a dream move for me, but I am just concentrating on the Czech match now and what happens in the summer will happen.

'People are saying I should be in the Premier League, but I will leave that for others to decide. All I am interested in now is to do well for my country, get a good result and putting in a good performance.'

He added: 'I hope I am in the Premiership next season, but if it doesn't happen I will just keep playing to the best of my ability with West Brom.

'I just want to get better as a player. As for the future, I only played my last game for West Brom on Monday and it was a shattering blow.

'All I want to do now is finish on a high with Wales and then go away with my family for a break. We will see what happens after that.'

Moyes tried to sign Koumas when the midfielder left Tranmere, but the deal never materialised and the 27 year-old moved to West Brom instead.

Latest News

Everton are ready to turn their attentions to Jason Koumas and Paul Scharner after Newcastle United became clear favourites to sign Joey Barton.

Though David Moyes has long been an admirer of the Manchester City midfielder, it appears that his pursuit will be a fruitless one as Newcastle are prepared to offer Barton a ‘double your money' deal.

Moyes, however, is determined to bolster Everton's midfield options during the summer and moves for both West Brom's Koumas and Wigan Athletic's Austrian international Scharner are being considered.

But while the respective merits of Koumas and Scharner continue to be discussed, it would be wrong to suggest that a move for either man is imminent; at the moment, Everton's pressing concern is to finalise a deal for Phil Jagielka.

Kightly rules out Premiership move

Weekend reports suggested the former Grays player could move to the Premiership - but Kightly is hoping to sign another contract at Molineux this summer.

He told the Express & Star: "I'm not looking to sign for Aston Villa or Everton - I feel I owe the supporters and the manager at Wolves a big debt for the chance they gave me.

"Speculation is just part and parcel of football, but there is nothing in this.

"I've said on numerous occasions I want to sign a new contract and I can't see any reason why it won't happen in the next few weeks.

"Jez Moxey (Wolves chief executive) spoke to my agent this morning and I'll be happy to sign - my aim is to be in the Premiership with Wolves.

"We've not spoken about the length of the contract yet, but I'm keen to sign - whether it is four years or an even longer deal."

Mick McCarthy led Wolves to the Championship play-offs this season - but local rivals West Brom ended their hopes of a move up to the top flight of English football.

But Kightley added: "Hopefully signing the deal will show I'm committed to the club and want to play a big part next season - and put an end to the speculation.

"We have a talented squad and the players that we're looking to bring in will hopefully give us a really good chance next season."

Kightly will return to Wolves' Compton Park training ground on Tuesday for treatment on a knee injury which caused him problems at the end of the season.

POLL: I GOT BLUE GOAL WRONG (KNN!!!)

Former Premiership referee Graham Poll has conceded he cost Everton victory in the Goodison derby of the 1999/2000 season.

The Blues had won the first encounter at Anfield 1-0 earlier in the season and seemed to have snatched victory in the return clash at Goodison in April that season when Liverpool goalkeeper Sander Westerveld inadvertently blasted a clearance against the back of Everton's Don Hutchison.

The ball rebounded into the net but Poll ruled the goal out controversially.

Having now retired, the official from Tring has conceded he should have allowed the goal that would have provided the Blues with their first Premiership double over their local rivals.

Poll said: "I made a right ricket in the last minute and disallowed what was probably a perfectly good goal. I tried to explain it away but when I watched it back I thought 'maybe I should have kept my mouth shut'."

Sunderland make undisclosed offer for Nugent

Sunderland have stepped up their attempts to land £6million-rated Preston striker David Nugent.

PA Sport understands the Black Cats this morning tabled an undisclosed cash offer for the 22-year-old after failing to make progress with an earlier cash-plus-player proposal.

Neither club were commenting on the matter amid reports that Nugent has told friends he has opted for a move to the Stadium of Light.

The frontman, currently on international duty with England Under-21s in Holland, is keen to resolve his future after North End's failure to secure promotion from the Coca-Cola Championship last season made his departure almost inevitable.

Liverpool-born Nugent has been repeatedly linked with Everton, the club he supported as a boy, and a series of other potential suitors.

The Toffees are yet to make a move, and it remains to be seen whether Sunderland's bid will prove decisive, or serve to smoke out other would-be purchasers.

Black Cats boss Roy Keane has been coy over his transfer targets so far this summer - news of his move for Reading full-back Greg Halford earlier this week emerged only hours before it was completed - although he and chairman Niall Quinn have been working tirelessly behind the scenes.

Preston, who will have to pass on a significant proportion of any fee they receive for Nugent to his former club Bury under a sell-on clause negotiated as part of the deal which took him to Deepdale in January 2005, have been equally reticent, although chairman Derek Shaw had earlier played down the Sunderland link.

Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Post before news of this morning's approach leaked out, he said: 'I think the Dave Nugent to Sunderland story has been put through the media a few times now.

'I am very sure that one of the Premier League clubs will come in for Dave this summer, and we all know it is right for him to make the move.

'But I would be very surprised if anything happened while the European Championships are going on.

'I am sure that Dave will want to be professional enough to play for England Under-21s without any disturbance and distractions.

'So as far as this latest speculation is concerned, it is only that - speculation. 'There's nothing new to report - when there is, we will let people know.'

Everton is going to alternate between a 4-4-2 n 4-5-1 formation next season....In attack, Everton has nt one but 2 emerging talents in James Vaughan n Victor Anichebe...Moyes probably need to bring in another proven striker (possibly Nugent) to take some load off AJ n ship out the carcass of James Beattie....James Mcfadden can still play a part in midfield n attack........

In: Nugent
Out: Beattie

As for midfield, Everton 4 first choice midefielders r Phil Neville, Arteta, Carsley n Cahill.....Leon Osman will play the role of the 5th midfielder if Moyes decide to play a 4-5-1 formation....In terms of cover, Moyes only has Manuel Fernandes n Mcfadden....Manuel is still officially on loan from Benfica so Moyes has his work cut out for him in strengthening his midfield.....Possible acquisitions r Phi Jag, Koumas n Scharner.....I personally admire Nolan of Bolton n his talents will be greater exploited at Goodison Park than at Reebok Stadium....Hope Moyes can try to sign him given the current turmoil at Bolton.....

In: P. Jag, Nolan, Koumas (a direct replacement for Mcfadden if he leaves)
Out: None

Defence is definitely the weakest area for Everton in terms of number...Everton 1st choice lineup for defence is Hibbert,Stubbs,Yobo n Lescott.....The cover for Hibbert is Neville n the cover for central defence is Lescott while there r 3 cover for the left back slots - Pistone, Valente n Naysmith....Pistone can also cover for central defence during emergency....So Naysmith is likely to b scarificed for Everton to sign another utility man to cover Hibbert...Till now, beside being linked with the Shef Wed defender,Frankie Simek, there r no news on the defence front for Everton...

In: N.A.
Out: Naysmith

£10m offer will test Boro's desire to keep Downing

EVERTON are determined to sign Stewart Downing and will try to tempt Middlesbrough into selling their prize asset by offering a players plus cash deal worth around £10m for the England international.

Downing, the subject of offers from Tottenham in recent years, is this summer's number one target for Toffees boss David Moyes.

Middlesbrough will be reluctant to sell given they have already lost Mark Viduka to Newcastle and Ayegbeni Yakubu continues to attract attention from Premiership rivals.

With £12m the sum being mentioned in relation to Yakubu leaving, Boro will feel homegrown Downing is worth more than that so it would take something special for manager Gareth Southgate to even consider letting him go.

But sources on Merseyside insist Everton will not be put off easily and will make an approach to the Riverside hierarchy within the next couple of weeks.

Financially Moyes is not well armed in the transfer market and it is thought they would be unwilling to go over the £7m mark as things stand, which would be nowhere near Boro's valuation.

However, Southgate is on the look out for a number of new players to bolster his squad ahead of the new campaign.

And former Middlesbrough targets James Beattie, unsettled after an unsuccessful stint under Moyes, and winger Andy van der Meyde could be offered as makeweights in a cash-plus-players deal.

Beattie, a powerful striker who has endured a difficult time since his £6m switch from Southampton two years ago, is looking for a fresh challenge having fallen down the pecking order under Moyes.

And in van der Meyde, the former Inter Milan winger who was considered by Boro in the summer of 2005, they have a winger capable of filling the right midfield berth Southgate has been looking to fill this summer.

But even then Southgate - despite having Adam Johnson waiting in the wings to slot in on the left - would try to resist Everton's advances.

If striker Andy Johnson's apparent hopes of returning to London are granted with a move to West Ham, then Everton could be armed with an extra £15m in their transfer budget.

Clearly Moyes' arm would be strengthened considerably in his pursuit of Downing and, even if he is initially knocked back, there is a strong likelihood he will come calling again for the talented England man.

It is the third summer in a row Boro have had to face up to the prospect of having to fend off interest from clubs.

Last August Tottenham made it known they had made their final offer for Downing, only for Boro to reject the deal out of hand.

Spurs manager Martin Jol had tracked the 22-year-old for more than a year but, after continuing to be knocked back by the Teessiders, the Dutchman turned his attentions to Steed Malbranque.

Retaining the services of Downing was one of Southgate's first tasks after succeeding Steve McClaren as Middlesbrough manager and it is a problem that looks unlikely to go away.

It comes at a time when he is also having to deal with growing interest in Nigerian striker Yakubu. The 24-year-old is wanted by Portsmouth, while West Ham are preparing to make their own move after missing out on Charlton's Darren Bent.

United close to releasing Jagielka

SHEFFIELD UNITED are on the verge of conceding defeat in their attempts to persuade Phil Jagielka not to join Everton.

If an independent arbitration panel goes against them and refuses to overturn their relegation from the Premiership next week, club chiefs will then admit that a fight for financial compensation is the best they can hope for.

And once their Championship status is confirmed for next season, Everton are then free to trigger the £4million release clause that will enable Jagielka to complete his desired move to Goodison.

Blades plc chairman Kevin McCabe has told Jagielka to delay a decision on his future until after Tuesday, when a final decision is due on United’s appeal.

(finally the saga can come to an end...;) )

Per Kroldrup (Everton)

Sadly for Toffees fans, Kroldrup was no Great Dane. Hailed by boss David Moyes after signing from Udinese for £5m, the centre-half started only one game — and that was a 4-0 drubbing by Aston Villa.

Kroldrup played a total of just 147 minutes, costing Everton £13,600 for each of them when he was sold to Fiorentina for £3m after just six months.

Suitors need £5.5m for Koumas

The 27-year-old is high on a number of Premier League clubs' wanted list after the Baggies missed out on a place in England's top tier following defeat to Derby in the Championship play-off final.

But Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has already proved he intends to hang on to the club's prize assets, turning down a £4million bid for Koumas from Wigan and a reported £7million offer for Koumas and Diomansy Kamara from Fulham.

Peace has confirmed he will only sell the likes of Koumas and Kamara for 'head-turning money' - and is believed to rate the Wales midfielder at around £5.5million as he still has two years left to run on his contract at The Hawthorns.

Koumas cost £2.25million when he signed from Tranmere in August 2002 - and scored 10 goals last season.

But Albion's current valuation of him is unlikely to deter the likes of Blackburn, Fulham, Sunderland and Latics, who all have plenty of cash to play with thanks to the Premier League's lucrative new Sky deal.

Rovers boss Mark Hughes is keen to be reunited with Koumas after working with him during his tenure as Wales boss, while Black Cats chief Roy Keane is believed to be tracking Albion defender Paul McShane as well as the Welshman.

Aston Villa and Everton have also been linked with summer bids for Koumas, who is "happy to stay" at The Hawthorns if no club meets the asking price, according to his agent Peter McIntosh.

Hammers enter race for Nugent :(

Nugent is currently in Holland with the England Under-21 side participating in the European Championship and has been unable to talk to clubs while the tournament is ongoing.

However, that has not stopped the long-time Everton target being strongly linked with a move to newly-promoted Sunderland.

But now the Hammers have emerged as contenders for the 22-year-old's signature after Bent turned down a move to Upton Park, according to the Lancashire Evening Post.

With England facing Holland in the semi-finals on Wednesday, interested parties will have to wait until Thursday at the earliest to hold talks with the hitman.

Nugent has been linked with a move to a host of Premiership clubs after scoring 17 goals for the Lilywhites last season.

He made his international debut in March, scoring in a 3-0 victory over Andorra.

The Portugal Under-21 midfielder has been starring in the European Championships in Holland, but will not be returning to the top flight this summer.

Fernandes spent the first five months of last season on loan at Portsmouth from Benfica, and the final four on loan at Everton.

But because of issues relating to his ownership by a third party, Benfica demanded in excess of £12million for him - a fee which put off the two potential suitors.

Fernandes told the Daily Express: "I'm back at Benfica now, it's finished for me in England. I enjoyed it, it was a great experience."

Bardsley fee agreed

According to reports on This is London, Everton boss David Moyes has agreed a £2m fee for Manchester United defender, Phil Bardsley.

The Blues boss has been given permission to speak to the 21 year old and contract negotiations are believed to be under way for the right back.

Having had loan spells at Royal Antwerp, Burnley, Rangers, and more recently, Aston Villa, Bardsley is clearly not part of Manchester United's plans, and will be relishing the chance to get some permanent first team action.

Having started his career as a central defender, he will have the required versatility factor that Moyes looks for in his players, while still giving Tony Hibbert a run for his money at right-back.

Pardew wins race for French star

The 20-year-old right-back, who was reportedly a target for Aston Villa, Everton, Celtic and Lazio, cost the Addicks £400,000 from French second division side Chateauroux and has signed a four-year deal.

"I'm delighted to sign Yassin and we have very high hopes for him," said Pardew. "He's a player who a number of clubs were very interested in, and we're naturally very pleased he has chosen Charlton.

"He brings exactly the qualities we are going to need in the Championship next season. He's a very honest player who wants to succeed and he has plenty of hunger.

"He's a player I've been aware of for some seven months now, and he's going to be a great addition to our squad for next year."

Cahill and Arteta agree five-year Everton deals

Everton have ended any uncertainties over the futures of key players Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta by agreeing new five-year contracts with the pair.

Both had been the subject of speculation linking them with West Ham earlier in the summer, as was striker Andrew Johnson.

At the time an angry manager David Moyes insisted that 'West Ham couldn't afford our players, any of them'.

And now Everton have tied Cahill and Arteta to long-term deals until 2012.

Both players had three years remaining on their existing deals but the Toffees were keen to further extend their contracts to reward the duo for the success they have achieved at Goodison in recent seasons.

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright is delighted to have concluded the negotiations.

'David Moyes and myself were keen to get these important extensions wrapped up before the new season opens,' chairman Bill Kenwright told the club's website.

'We did it in the Everton way - quietly, efficiently and away from the glare of the spotlight.

'Negotiations have been ongoing for several weeks and have now been satisfactorily concluded and I know the two lads are as happy as we are.'

PNE hope Nugent deal doesn't drag

Preston boss Simpson confirmed Nugent will hold talks with two Premier League clubs this week - with Roy Keane's Sunderland confirmed as one of them - as the England striker seeks a move to the top flight.

And Simpson urged the forward to consider his options carefully, insisting he would be happy for Nugent to remain at Deepdale next season.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's in his hands really. We've given him permission to speak to two clubs and we're waiting for a decision from him.

"He's still on holiday. He returns on Monday I think.

"I think he's got a couple of talks to be held. He's got a big decision to make and I hope he makes the right decision.

"If he doesn't go in this period, then I'll look forward to welcoming him back on Thursday and getting on with pre-season."

Sunderland are leading the race after being granted permission to talk to him, but Everton fan Nugent is thought to favour a switch to Goodison Park.

Derby, Blackburn and Birmingham are also keen on the striker and Simpson revealed Preston originally accepted an offer over a month ago, but Nugent's participation in the European Under 21 Championship has held up progress on his transfer.

"It seems incredible," Simpson added. "It was 33 days ago that we accepted an offer for him from a Premier League club and he still hasn't gone, so we're waiting to see.

"I know there's been the disruption of the European Championship, if you can call that a disruption, and he's had a lot of thinking to do.

"It's a big decision to make and I'm sure once he gets back he'll have to make the biggest decision of his career.

"We're in a win-win situation if I'm going to be honest with you because if he doesn't leave, I've got a fantastic striker coming back for next season.

"If he does, the club are going to benefit financially, so we're not pushing him out the door. We'd welcome him back if that was the situation."

(Its D-Day for Nugent now!! I feel that he is gg to b a good signing, gg by the reviews of his recent performance in the U-21 Championship.... )

Richardson race gathering pace

Richardson turned his back on a permanent move to West Brom, where he had spent a successful loan spell in January 2005, two summers ago in a bid to fight for a regular first-team spot at Old Trafford.

But the 22-year-old, who can play in midfield or defence, found himself behind Patrice Evra and Gabriel Heinze in the fight for the left-back slot - and struggled to dislodge veteran winger Ryan Giggs.

The summer arrivals of Owen Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson have pushed Richardson even further down the pecking order.

And with that in mind, Sunderland and Sheffield United have put him on their wanted list - with Roy Keane keen to be reunited with his former Red Devils team-mate and Blades boss Bryan Robson hoping to lure him after managing him during his spell in charge of Albion.

If Sir Alex Ferguson does decide to let Richardson go, however, the two clubs face a fight for his signature.

Incoming Manchester City chief Sven-Goran Eriksson, who gave Richardson his England debut on a summer tour of the USA, would like him at Eastlands for next season.

And Everton gaffer David Moyes is keen to bolster his left-sided options, having to field star midfielder Mikel Arteta on the left flank for large parts of last season.

Toffees to drive home Jag deal

The Yorkshire club's relegation means a clause in the player's contract allowing him to leave Bramall Lane for £4million will be triggered.

Everton sources suggest the deal for the utility player could be completed early next week, which could spark a number of moves into the transfer market with manager David Moyes linked with Manchester United pair Alan Smith and Kieran Richardson.

But less likely is a move for West Brom's Wales international midfielder Jason Koumas, with the Toffees questioning his lack of Premier League experience.

And with Moyes also awarding Brazilian midfielder Anderson de Silva a new one-year contract, the need to recruit Koumas seems even less likely.

De Silva arrived full-time on Merseyside in January after initially being signed late in 2005.

Immigration issues meant he could not link up with Everton then and he went on loan to Spanish side CF Malaga. Anderson subsequently gained a European passport and was able to join the club permanently.

He was a regular for the reserves in the second part of the season and made one appearance for the first team a late substitute in the 2-1 win over Charlton in April.

Now Moyes intends to give him the opportunity to prove his ability in the Premier League.

Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta, now with an improved five-year contract, believes significant new deals awarded to several senior stars will encourage players to join the club.

Tim Cahill, Joseph Yobo and Tim Howard are also on substantial long-term deals and Arteta said: "There was a lot of speculation about my future but I said from the start I wanted to stay here.

"I want to play alongside the players mentioned, they are all a good age but have experience as well."

Arteta is confident of seeing some new arrivals in the coming weeks.

He said: "Hopefully we can get more good players here as well because it is going to be a very busy season ahead of us.

"I think the club wants to move forward and bring in more players."

Moyes also insists the board's decision to give Arteta and Cahill improved, long-term contracts has established Everton's financial credibility as a top-six club.

He said: "It is good news regarding Tim and Mikel and credit to the board. They have made sure they get the players good contracts and we now have the nucleus of a good young squad of players and we want to keep them all."

Toffees backtrack on Riquelme deal

A story appeared on the website on Monday morning claiming that the Argentine was on his way from Villarreal.

The 'news' quickly spread on Everton forums, where rumours of a swoop for Riquelme have been fostered over the past month despite the former Barcelona player being on the verge of a move to Atletico Madrid.

The story was quickly removed from the Everton website, where a statement appeared claiming the article was "completely untrue and appeared as a result of a technical error that occurred during some maintenance work on the site".

A club spokesperson explained: "During the process of uploading the new home page designs for the website, some test data was displayed for a very short period of time and was immediately removed after it had been identified.

"Example data had been used during the testing process and this was unfortunately missed by our appointed web development company during the final upload.

"We have since spoken to our suppliers to convey our complete dissatisfaction at the way in which this mis-information appeared and they have apologised to the club and any Everton supporters who may have read the test article."

BLUES SIGN JAGIELKA

Everton have finally secured the services of Phil Jagielka from Sheffield United in a £4million deal.

Jagielka, 24-years old, has been a long-term target of David Moyes but the ongoing controversy involving The Blades, West Ham United and the Premier League was a stumbling block.

However, the Everton manager’s patience was rewarded on Wednesday afternoon when the England B international finally put pen to paper on a five-year deal.

Jagielka played in every one of United’s Premier League games last season, scoring four goals, and he was often the reason that Neil Warnock opted not to select a reserve goalkeeper on the bench...his versatility even extends to being adept between the sticks!

Having finally completed the deal, he now can’t wait to get started.

“I am definitely looking forward to running out at Goodison,” he said

“When I played here last season the fans were fantastic and hopefully I will get to run out sooner rather than later.”

The player known as ‘Jags’ added that the perseverance and sheer enthusiasm of David Moyes was a big pulling factor in his decision to leave Sheffield.

“The manager was keen to sign me and that is always a nice sign,” he said. “He has done fantastically well here and it is a fantastic club.

“Being in Europe, where we belong, and his pull to bring me here were massive reasons.”

Part of the deal may well include a switch to Yorkshire for Gary Naysmith. The Scottish defender has been given permission to meet with Sheffield United and discuss a possible move to Bramall Lane.

Redknapp reveals interest in striker Nugent

Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has admitted he is interested in signing Preston striker David Nugent.

The England international is destined to leave Deepdale but Sunderland have already pulled out of the race to sign him despite having a £6million bid accepted last month, while Everton are reported to be keen but not at that price.

Redknapp has held talks with the 22-year-old but is waiting for the player to make a decision.

'I'm interested in David. He works hard and scores goals and has a great attitude,' Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

'I think he has a couple of clubs interested so we'll see what he wants to do.

'I had a meeting with him and he seems like a great lad.'

Alan Smith barely score goals nowadays so I m also puzzled as to why Moyes is interested in him.....Saha is a better bet but he is highly injury prone and may not b a suitable cover for AJ now.........

Naysmith seals £1m Blades switch

Naysmith, 28, has signed a three-year deal at Bramall Lane - ending a six-and-half-year stay with the Toffees.

It is the second piece of business between the sides in as many days, after the Blades agreed to sell Phil Jagielka to David Moyes' side for £4million.

Naysmith told the club's website: "Coming to play under Bryan Robson makes me really excited and, after speaking with the chairman, I am keen and happy to be here.

"I was always there or thereabouts at Everton but they had several established players and if you were out injured it was difficult to force your way back in."

Naysmith also revealed the new management team of Bryan Robson and Brian Kidd at Bramall Lane was a big reason behind his decision to swap the Premier League for the Championship.

"I spoke to (Everton captain) Phil Neville about working with Brian Kidd and he had nothing but praise for his training methods and he was sure I would enjoy it immensely.

"Both Robson and Kidd are born winners.

"This is a big club who have done very well in recent years and were unlucky in the Premiership last season.

"I have no problems with dropping a division, as I feel we will only be here (in the second tier) for one year. We have a great squad with plenty of experience so we should be aiming to get promoted at the first attempt."

Like Jagielka, Naysmith is a versatile player and would be happy to inherit the England B international's role as jack-of-all trades for United.

He said: "I will play anywhere, although I see myself as a left-back.

"I can play in midfield, though, and did on occasions for Everton last season."

The former Middlesbrough left-back is desperate to quit Craven Cottage after a bust-up with boss Lawrie Sanchez over his style of football and has already held informal talks with Newcastle, according to the Journal.

The newspaper claims the Frenchman has his heart set on a return to the north-east, having left Boro last summer.

Queudrue's agent Dominique Six said: "Newcastle and Everton regard Franck as a possible signing.

"Some Premier League clubs are looking for a left-back and Franck could be a good choice. He's a professional and is under contract to Fulham.

"But if an opportunity occurs, I will definitely study it."

Van der Meyde vows to improve

The 27-year-old winger has made just 12 Premier League starts for the Toffees since joining from Inter Milan for around £2million in August 2005.

The Dutchman has suffered a catalogue of injury problems but has received little sympathy from the Goodison faithful due to several outbursts and off-the-field incidents.

Last summer, van der Meyde was admitted to hospital with breathing problems after his drink was allegedly spiked in a bar. He was also fined by Everton for being out on a Sunday night, as he was in breach of club discipline.

Van der Meyde's house was then burgled shortly afterwards, with his pet dogs stolen (they were later returned unharmed).

A spat with boss David Moyes followed in March after van der Meyde accused of him telling "downright lies" to the media about the midfielder's lack of fitness.

Speculation continues to link van der Meyde with a transfer but with two years left on his Goodison contract, he claims he is eager to knuckle down and win over the fans.

He told the club's official website: "I haven't had the best times of times at Everton.

"I know I can do better and I want to please everybody as well as myself. I have been unlucky with injuries and I'm trying to start afresh.

"I'm passionate about football and it's frustrating when you've been training all week not to play on the Saturday - but that's football.

"The only person to blame is myself and this season I will do better."

He added: "I just want to have a good pre-season and be in the starting XI for the first match (at home to Wigan on August 11).

"I can't wait for the season to start. It's up to me to do the best I can and the rest is up to the gaffer."

Toffees and Cats bidding for Baines

Goodison boss David Moyes is keen to recruit lifelong Toffees fan Baines, who was born in Kirkby.

The 22-year-old was let go by Everton when he was a youngster but after five years playing in the Latics first team, and with 16 U21 caps under his belt, he has emerged as one of Moyes' top summer targets.

And if the Merseyside giants get close to Wigan's valuation, a deal can be expected - especially after Chris Hutchings confirmed another Black Cats approach had been turned down.

Roy Keane is attempting to construct a new defence at the Stadium of Light, and has already snapped up Greg Halford, Russell Anderson and Chris Baird in recent weeks.

Hutchings confirmed to the Wigan Observer: "We've rejected another bid from Sunderland for Leighton.

"We don't want to let him go but, as I said all along, every player has got their price."

Moyes angry over big spenders

Moyes sealed a £4million move for Phil Jagielka from Sheffield United last week and is keen to add more players to his squad, but admits he is struggling to compete with some of the top flight's big spenders.

The likes of Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool, Fulham and West Ham have splashed millions of pounds on new players this summer and Moyes fears inflated prices could have negative consequences for the game.

He told Everton's official website: "I think there has been some irresponsible buying and spending by some clubs and it makes it a bit more difficult if you've got less money to spend than that."

He added: "We'd like to add to the squad and I know the supporters are desperate to see new faces coming in, no more so than me, but things out there in the market are tight.

"But we are certainly doing everything we can to strengthen the squad and give ourselves a chance. We've done it that way for the past few years and we'll continue to do so.

"I've been a supporter, in fact I still am a supporter, but we're always quite cagey here and we don't give too much away partly because people know that we don't have the funds to compete at the top end."

(This is as good as admitting defeat!! :( )

Everton to ballot fans over proposed stadium

Everton are to ballot their supporters over a move from Liverpool to a new home in nearby Kirkby.

The club have been discussing the situation for about a year following more than a century at Goodison Park.

The fans are to be involved the process with the outcome of the ballot likely to be known at the end of August.

Chief executive Keith Wyness told: 'We are confident that a very high percentage of those who have historically supported the club will have the right to have their voices heard.

'We believe that the final number of supporters who will be eligible will be in excess of 33,000.

'That's a figure which, roughly corresponds with the number of Evertonians present for our Premiership fixtures at Goodison Park.'

Beatt'll bum lift to Rovers for £4m

Blackburn have already enquired about the striker, while Middlesbrough are thought to be lining him up if they fail in a bid for Manchester United forward Alan Smith, who is also interesting Everton.

Rovers had hoped to include Jason Roberts in a cut-price deal for Beattie but, according to the Daily Mail, the Toffees want to recoup more of the £6million they paid for him to fund their Smith swoop.

Rovers were keen on a deal for Beattie during the January transfer window but David Moyes was unwilling to let the 29-year-old leave at the time.

However, with Everton now favourites to land Smith ahead of Boro, Moyes wants the former Southampton star off his wage bill and will be hoping to receive a firm offer this week.

If Gareth Southgate misses out on Smith and Beattie, he may then turn his attention to Tottenham's Mido who is available for £2million.

Spurs are reportedly keen to get rid of a player who is now fifth-choice up front following the recent arrival of Darren Bent.

MOYES CHASES THE SOL

Everton boss David Moyes has reportedly made a shock enquiry about Sol Campbell.

The former England centre-back signed for Portsmouth from Arsenal only last summer, but put in an impressive season at Fratton Park, forming a solid defensive partnership with Linvoy Primus.

And according to The People, Moyes is weighing up a £1 million bid for Campbell, who he thinks could perfectly compliment one of last season's success stories, Joleon Lescott.

Moyes has already added Phil Jagielka from Sheffield United to his back-line, but Campbell would add some much needed experience to his squad.

Campbell was linked with Newcastle earlier in the summer, but new boss Sam Allardyce's interest appears to have cooled after the capture of Czech centre-half David Rozenhal.

Moyes is looking to strengthen his defensive options, with Stuttgart reportedly preparing a move for Joseph Yobo, who joined Everton from Marseille in 2002.

Tough luck for Toffees teenager

The 19-year-old was injured in a collision with Youl Mawene during Wednesday's 1-1 draw with the Lilywhites.

Assistant boss Alan Irvine told the club's website: "It will be months rather than weeks with James - a couple of months I should expect.

"Having suffered the injury myself I know how painful it is and how long it can take to get back.

"It is not a long, long-term injury - it is not anything like his knee problem - but it is not something we expect him to return from in a matter of weeks.

"It is bad, bad luck for him. After being out for so long he did really well at the end of last season and was looking good in pre-season so it is not just bad luck for the lad but also for the team."

Mac is Billy's back-up plan

Etherington is out of favour at Upton Park, where he has fallen behind Luis Boa Morte in the pecking order for the left-wing role.

And the wideman is Davies' top target as he looks for someone to provide the ammunition for Steve Howard and new boy Robert Earnshaw in the top flight.

Etherington, however, is not too keen on swapping London for the East Midlands - so if Davies continues to hit a brick wall, he will move for Scotland forward McFadden.

The versatile former Motherwell star, who can play on the wing or up front, is recovering from a broken metatarsal but is expected to be fit for the new campaign.

And Davies is hoping the offer of regular first-team football, something he cannot be guaranteed by Toffees boss David Moyes, is enough to make him Derby's fourth capture of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of Earnshaw, Tyrone Mears and Andy Todd.

.....Now this rumour begs a question - why would Everton let him go when the squad is so bloody thin at the moment????

Moyes: Defeat is wake-up call

Two goals in the space of 60 first-half seconds proved decisive at the Rice-Eccles Stadium and Moyes is hoping the loss will act as a spur going into the new campaign.

Moyes told evertonTV: "The boys had a hard session as far as running about. But it wasn't a good performance.

"A lot of people would tell you the conditions were very warm but we won't use that as an excuse.

"It is part of the training and defeats will come along but we are disappointed in the nature of tonight's game because we have been doing okay, we have been full of confidence and were brimming after last season.

"But maybe we needed that, maybe it is a wake-up call to make us realise we are all about hard work and commitment and there wasn't enough of that tonight."

An error from Tim Howard gifted the opening goal to Salt Lake captain Corey Talley but Moyes was nevertheless happy with the American keeper's performance.

He added: "Tim Howard played really well, but he was at fault for the first goal. But if anybody asked me who had a plus tonight I would say him from his overall performance.

"We stuck at it but we didn't make their keepers make saves in the way Tim had to work for us."

Blues defender Joleon Lescott added: "I've been told they (Real) are bottom of their league, which I find surprising because they fully deserved their victory."

.......wake up call or not, this doesn't sounds good to me......:(

I'm a huge fan of Ajax and Steven Pienaar was part of what was a very good team there a couple of seasons ago with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Rafael Van Der Vaart, Nigel De Jong and Julien Escude.

He's a technically gifted player but may struggle with the physical side of things. Much has been said about the way he outplayed Patrick Viera when Ajax played Arsenal but I think if used in the right way, Everton have a gem of a player in Pienaar. With Andy Van Der Meyde vowing to improve to his Ajax levels and if the club get Johann Vogel, I have high hopes for the Toffees this season... .

With Andy Van Der Meyde vowing to improve to his Ajax levels and if the club get Johann Vogel, I have high hopes for the Toffees this season... .

I agreed that the midfield has been strengthened considerably but the defence n attack r still relatively unbolstered so much work is still to be done....

Everton make new cash, player offer for Wigan's Baines

Everton boss Dave Moyes has made a new offer to Wigan Athletic for fullback Leighton Baines.
The Mirror says Moyes has offered £4million, plus the choice of a squad man, in a bid to sign Baines from Wigan.

And while Wigan have demanded that Everton pay the £6million that Sunderland were prepared to offer, Moyes is hopeful they will take less cash plus a player for the lifelong Everton fan.

Wigan chief Chris Hutchings would take Lee Carsley, who snubbed his club in favour of staying at the Blues when he was a free agent a couple of months ago.

(Anyone knows whats the latest updates with Vogel??)

Blades bid £4m for hitman Beattie

The Blades, preparing for life in the Championship, have been linked with the former Southampton striker in recent months.

Robson, who is chasing two more recruits before the start of the season on August 11, wants Beattie to lead the Blades' line as they bid to return to the top flight at the first attempt.

Robson also confirmed at a club open day on Sunday he is interested in Sydney's Australian midfielder David Carney.

Former Middlesbrough and West Brom manager Robson told Sky Sports News: "I've got a couple of things in the pipeline that are very close.

"Hopefully over the next 24, 48 hours we can move further forward with that."

Asked about Beattie, Robson said: "The situation at the moment is we've put a bid in to Everton. We've got to wait and see.

"The only thing I feel is that if I can persuade the lad to take a drop (to the Championship), hopefully only for one season, I think James Beattie would be a really good signing for us."

Robson has also been linked with a move for Celtic's Thomas Gravesen but admits a deal is unlikely.

"I wouldn't have thought that deal will happen," he added.

(*Guess we all knows where the money for Baines is going to come from*)

Well, seriously, I dun think A.Smith can be considered a 'pure' striker nowadays.....He is holding a one-man strike in front of goal nowadays....:p

Mobaeck tipped for Mersey move

The Toffees are still hoping to complete a deal for Wigan full-back Leighton Baines - although Manchester City and Liverpool are also believed to be in the hunt.

And they are also waiting for some movement in James Beattie's situation, with a £4million fee agreed with Sheffield United and only the player's acceptance of the move to come.

Beattie trained at Bellefield on Thursday, and his future will become clearer once Blades chairman Kevin McCabe returns from a break in Australia shortly.

David Moyes, away on family business, must decide whether to include Beattie in his party that travels to face Crystal Palace on Saturday.

One player definitely not involved is Tim Cahill, who has suffered a recurrence of the foot injury which ruled him out from March last term.

Moyes may have to look closely at his transfer policy if Cahill is out for too long, and was being linked with Mobaeck in Sweden on Thursday.

The 27-year-old has impressed since being converted to a defender from a striker by coach Magnus Haglund.

Mobaeck shone last week when he scored the winner in Elfsborg's 1-0 UEFA Champions League qualifier in Debrecen.

The player admits he would be tempted by a move to England as he said: "Of course, I would be interested in playing in the Premier League.

"If an offer comes, which is right for both the club and me, I am of course interested. It's obvious that it is noticed in Europe when you score in an important match."

Strasbourg are also believed to be monitoring Mobaeck, and his agent Martin Klette said: "I can confirm that two European clubs have enquired about Daniel."

(I believe a central defender will be a nice addition to the squad as back up to Stubbs and Yobo)

Toffees looking for Lucho deal

Toffees boss David Moyes is believed to be closing in on the signature of the 26-year-old, who starred for his country at last year's World Cup finals and in the recent Copa America tournament in Venezuela.

Gonzalez, who moved from River Plate to Portugal two years ago, is highly valued by his club but the Daily Express claims Porto would be prepared to sell for an eight-figure sum.

If the Goodison outfit do break their transfer record - they paid Crystal Palace £8.6million last summer for England striker Andrew Johnson - it would represent a significant sign of intent ahead of the new Premier League season.

Phil Jagielka and Steven Pienaar have already arrived on the blue half of Merseyside so far this summer, while Moyes continues to work towards the capture of Wigan's England Under-21 left-back Leighton Baines.

(This will be a supersonic capture but looking at this fee makes me wonder if he is really worth so much dough???)

Toffees linked with Barca striker

DiarioSport claims the Toffees are the latest Premier League club to show an interest in the 30-year-old, who is available on a free transfer.

Equerro travelled with Barcelona on their pre-season tour of Scotland and reportedly attracted interest from Manchester City and Bolton.

"It is no secret that the player has set his sights on playing in England and we are working towards that happening," Barca's technical secretary Exiki Begiristain said.

(not a long term solution, probably a stop gap measure due to the departure of James Beattie)

Baines on verge of Everton deal

Baines will undergo a medical and is set to conclude talks over personal terms with the club he supported as a boy.

The 22-year-old has been much in demand this summer and turned down a £6million move to Sunderland last month.

Baines played no part in Wigan's friendly victory over Leeds on Saturday. He was reportedly suffering from a hamstring strain but his absence at Elland Road fuelled speculation that a move was imminent.

Wigan manager Chris Hutchings was keen to keep the highly-rated player at the JJB Stadium and recently paid tribute to his professionalism amid all the transfer talk.

"Leighton is a first-class pro and a first-class person and, despite all the speculation and rumour surrounding his future, he has remained professional throughout and as ever is a joy to work with," Hutchings said.

"I have coached him since he first broke into the first team as a young apprentice and taken great satisfaction in how he has developed as a player and an individual."

Earlier, Toffees assistant manager Alan Irvine said he was "hopeful" full-back Baines would agree to move to Goodison Park.

"We are at least part of the way down the road," Irvine told Everton's official website.

"But with the demands made by everyone these days, I'll only believe it's going to happen when it actually does happen.

"We have been talking to Leighton and hopefully sorting things out with him."

Everton are rumoured to have agreed a £6million deal with the Latics and Irvine believes that is a good piece of business.

"When you look at the prices that are going around these days, then £6m is not a great deal of money," he continued.

"Leighton has got real potential to play for his country. He's a good footballer, a nice passer of the ball, he has loads of energy and he is quick."

(keep our fingers crossed!!)

Baines agrees to £5m Toffees move

The England Under-21 international was given permission to talk to Everton boss David Moyes over the weekend and a deal has now been agreed.

Baines, who turned down a switch to Sunderland two weeks ago, admits it was a tough decision to leave Latics.

"I've had six fantastic years here and it was a really tough decision to leave that behind because this is the club who have given me the opportunity to make it in the game," he told the club's official website.

"It's been a real adventure here and it's one I'll never forget, but I need a fresh challenge."

Coincidentally, Wigan's opening game is against Everton on Saturday but Baines could struggle to make the match as he has a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, Latics boss Chris Hutchings is banking on starting the season without Baines and has already begun searching for a left-back.

Hutchings explained: "The timing does not help us to be honest but we have been looking at left-backs and that will continue.

"The situation with Leighton has rumbled on and we would have liked it sorted out earlier.

"But we have to move on. We would like to bring someone else in but I do not know if that will happen."

Hutchings continued: "He has done a fantastic job for this club after coming through the system.

"He was brought up here and knows a lot of people but sometimes you need to make a change in your life."

If Hutchings fails in his bid to bring in a replacement, then Kevin Kilbane will almost certainly fill in as an emergency left back.

Hutchings added: "He has played there a number of times in pre-season and have every confidence in him."

Manuel return delights Carsley

Fernandes completed his medical on Friday, and although the contracts are likely to be signed soon, the paper-work will take longer.

A complicated deal involving third-party ownership means far more documentation - and everything must be scrutinised by the Premier League, in the wake of the Carlos Tevez scandal.

The same companies that brought Tevez and Javier Mascherano to West Ham are involved in the Fernandes deal.

And Carsley said: "Manuel is a great talent; he knows about us and worked really hard to get his fitness when he was here last season.

"For us to sign a player who is the best talent to come out of Portugal for a couple of years is a great boost for us."

Everton will revive their interest in Matt Taylor after Portsmouth dropped their asking price to £5.5million. (fingers crossed)

Matt Taylor is poised to join boyhood heroes Tottenham this week for £5million.
